Martin Pipe and gypsy woman at loggerheads over property ownerships

Martin Pipe, the racehorse trainer, says he owns land a gypsy is trying to sell to Mid Devon District Council for use as a permanent travellers’ site.

Rosie Watson is thought to have bought most of the site in a normal freehold transaction, and gained freehold to the rest with a title possessory order – used by people who have occupied a property for more than 12 years to claim ownership of freehold rights.

Now Martin Pipe has written to the council claiming he owns part of the site, which is near his training grounds and yards at nearby at Nicholashayne.

There is planning permission for the site, which has been criticised by both parish councillors and the gypsy community, and until ownership is established the £450,000 sale of the site by the council won’t go through.
