Devon County Council puts job cuts and savings high on the agenda

The 500 jobs cuts at Devon County Council, which could save £20 million over two years, were on the cost-cuting agenda at latest council meeting.

Care homes were also discussed, with money saving plans expected to save £5 million in three years, with £735,000 to ensure the properties are fit for purpose. There are also proposals for up to 18 redundancies in adult and community learning because of an overspend of £400,000.

Also to go is support for links with Baranya, a region of Hungary and Croatia, and pulling out of the Assembly of European Regions.
