Rural communities in Devon hit by JobCentre closures

If you’re unemployed in Kingsbridge, Ilfracombe and Tavistock  you have to travel to Exeter to get to the JobCentre and if you’re in Barnstable you need to go to Plymouth.

Eight JobCentres in Devon have closed since the start of the recession in 2008, that’s more than 40 per cent, according to the BBC, with the additional travel costs hitting rural communites.

The Department for Work and Pensions said it was reviewing the situation, but had set up a number of outreach services in rural areas.
