Forget Bobbies on the the beat, what we need are more town criers
A fully costumed Newton Abbot Town Crier directed traffic around a van which was on fire in the town on Saturday, December 12.
Town crier Ken Purchase, a retired policeman, was kitted out in his full town crier garb and was on his way to greet Christmas shoppers in Newton Abbot.
Ken told thisisouthdevon: “I just did that to help and let the police take over when they arrived. It just took me back to the time when I was a police officer.”
