Roadworks at Sandygate – junction 30 of the M5
Work is to begin on further improvements to the Sandygate roundabout later this week to improve traffic flows and reduce congestion.
The improvement scheme will provide a continuous four lane circulatory carriageway, as well as widening two of the approaches and two of the exits from the roundabout. This will bring into use the areas of carriageway around the centre of the roundabout created as part of an initial phase of the project in 2008.
Better facilities for cyclists are included, with a safe route through junction 30 and connecting to recently completed sections of cycleway to Clyst St Mary and beyond towards Westpoint east of the junction.
The work will be completed in stages and mostly during the night to minimise disruption to traffic. The first stage will be widening the A379 approach to four lanes at the stop-line of the roundabout. Also, the Sidmouth Road exit from the roundabout will be widened to three lanes.
