Pupil premium to benefit Bideford by around £100,000
Geoffrey Cox MP has spoken of his delight that Bideford College will receive in the region of £100,000 under the government’s pupil premium scheme.
The pupil premium scheme offers an extra lump sum of money will be received by schools allowing additional funding for pastoral care, closer or specialised tuition and other measures as required for disadvantaged children.
The funds can offer additional support for those on free school meals, children with parents in the armed forces, and those who are registered as ‘looked-after-children’ in the local authority.
Geoffrey said: “This targeted funding will provide that additional support and ensure a massive boost to the education of some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in these tough times.
“I have already praised the benefits this scheme could offer Torridge and West Devon’s schools and children when it was still just a policy idea. Now I look forward to seeing the benefits come to fruition at Bideford College, and other schools and colleges across the country.”
