New extra care housing for Okehampton
The long-awaited extra care housing scheme in Okehampton is now officially open.
The new site, Castle Ham Lodge, provides 50 purpose-built flats and additional facilities for the community, including a hairdressers, consultation rooms, café, three multi-purpose activity rooms and secure courtyard spaces and gardens for residents and their guests.
The housing comes with on-site care and support teams, provided by Guinness Care and Support. The care is available to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing as much or as little support as they need, when they need it.
The county council has invested £500,000 in the new development, raised through second home council tax, which is part of its strategy to make this type of accommodation more readily available in the county.
