Nominations for the Devon Sports Awards close Friday, March 1 2013 and organisers Active Devon are urging clubs, coaches and fans not to miss out on what is looking to be the biggest Devon Sports Awards ceremony to date.

The awards celebrate not only the players, but the clubs and teams, the coaches, the officials and the volunteers who help performers to succeed.

The organisers are particularly keen to receive nominations for the Contribution to Inclusive Sport category launched this year along with the introduction of Professional Sports Person of the Year and Professional Club of the Year categories for the first time in the Awards 10 year history.

With 11 categories in total, even more people across the county are eligible to apply and Active Devon are urging people to fill in a nomination form to ensure as many sportspeople as possible get the opportunity to be acknowledged and rewarded.

Marketing manager at Active Devon, Helen Pope told the Devon Week: “In light of the focus on sport in 2012, we are expecting an increase on the number of nominations this year but would still urge people to ensure they have made their nominations by the closing date and to take 20 minutes to make a nomination using our new format quick and easy nomination form.

“As we have seen with some of the high profile TV competitions, people can assume their favourites have already been voted for, but all too often, this is not the case. We are urging everyone not to miss out on the opportunity to let their sports coach, volunteers, club or team know just how important they are to you and how much their contribution is valued.”

Helen added: “With the two new professional categories of Sports Personality of the Year and Club of the Year we are hoping to attract nominations from people who might not necessarily have engaged with the awards before, we’d really like to see some nominations that acknowledge the professional clubs that give back to the community and the professional sports personalities that are an inspiration to others.”

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Active Devon website at and either printed out and posted in, or completed online and emailed to Active Devon. For any queries please contact the Active Devon Office on 01392 263674 or email
