North Devon student outshines hundreds to win national award
Local MP Nick Harvey has met North Devon student Samantha Banks to congratulate her on winning a prestigious national BTEC award.
At a Parliamentary reception last week, Samantha received the Outstanding Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Student of the Year award. The ceremony recognised the achievements of some the nearly one million students around the country who are studying BTEC qualifications – taken in vocational subjects – this year.
Samantha was nominated by her tutor as a shining example of hard work and commitment to her chosen field. The judges were impressed by her outstanding grades, commitment to her career as well as her passion for the airline sector.
Nick Harvey said: “It’s fantastic that Samantha outshone hundreds of other nominees to go home with this award. The National BTEC Awards are a great way to recognise educational excellence and showcase Britain’s brightest talent.
“Samantha’s achievement is doubly impressive when you consider her daily 90 minute journey from her North Devon home to Exeter College, and her dedication has clearly paid off as she recently secured a job with EasyJet. Let’s hope Samantha’s win is an inspiration for young people in North Devon currently studying for BTECs.”
