Redefining the surround sound experience
It’s always interesting to hear experts talk about their work, and it’s doubly fun when they come out with phrases like ‘tower of power’.
Designer Torsten Valeur and Bang & Olufsen concept developer Kreston Krab Johansen talk about how they work together to create new sound systems.
“What we’re aiming at is to understand what people’s needs are, and then design products that fit these needs,” says Kreston.
Of course, it being Bang & Olufsen these needs are wrapped in great technology and beautiful design.
It’s all about falling in love with ideas, and being able to fulfil these ideas. Plus there’s the added challenge of making them compact.
“What we are known for as well as the beautiful design is the compactness, and to be able to achieve this compactness you have to work very closely together because it’s actually a compromise of many things that have to meet and come together in a perfect unit,” says Kreston.
The upshot is a small, sleek sound system that has the ability to fit into any home and offer up a big sound experience.
That focus on design goes right down to colour options and the choice of brackets and mountings for the speakers. And the tower of power, why that’s the sub-woofer, of course.
