MP welcomes Michael Portillo to Torrington for charity event
Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, has joined forces with The Plough Arts Centre to welcome Michael Portillo to Torrington at 4pm on Saturday, November 9 for a charity fundraising event.
The unique event, which is taking place at the Arts Centre, will provide the opportunity to hear the former Tory MP talking about his life in and out of politics. It will also feature a Q&A session, charity auction and book signing, all while enjoying tea and cake in the relaxed surroundings of The Plough.
Auctioneer Mark Packhouse will host the charity auction, featuring lots ranging from a week in a French villa to a piece of Dartington Crystal, many of which have been generously donated by local businesses in order to raise valuable funds for the Arts Centre.
Speaking about the event, Mr Cox told the Devon Week: “This is a wonderful opportunity to listen to one of this country’s characters. A talented politician, journalist and brilliant speaker, Michael caters for a wide audience and is found at many fundraising events and discussion forums.
“The Plough has a network of volunteers and friends that helps to keep it going, and by hard work and careful business management it survives as an invaluable and much loved cultural resource in our rural area with almost no public money. I am strongly supporting The Plough in its fundraising campaign and I hope that many others will do so too.”
