Plymouth’s new Lord Mayor to attend Plymstock charity event
The Burtons older people’s living facility in Plymstock will be opening its doors and providing a free lunch for anybody who would like to join, as part of Abbeyfield Week 2014.
Up to 10,000 people are expected to join in the Abbeyfield celebrations that are being organised by the charity’s volunteers, residents and staff on Wednesday, June 11 from 12.30pm. Events across the country range from dances, sports days, fetes and even a steam railway outing.
The Abbeyfield Society works with a profound aim to alleviate loneliness amongst older people, and these events are vital in cementing and strengthening community relationships.
Abbeyfield senior house manager, Neil Thompson said: “We are particularly grateful to the local community and volunteers of Abbeyfield. It’s a great chance for our residents, families and friends to have a big get-together.”
