Women of an Uncertain Age unleashed at Barnstaple’s Theatrefest
The comedy sketch show Women of an Uncertain Age will be performing at Theatrefest, Barnstaple from June 19-22.
Flip Webster and Maggie Bourgein, both seasoned actresses over 50, created the show because they felt that women are often misrepresented in the media and wanted to create comedy that speaks to this age group.
It’s not just Flip and Maggie who feel that way, in an interview with Radio Times, Meera Syel was asked ‘If you were a channel controller what would you like to see more of on TV?’
She said: ”I’d like more family comedy and more comedy with women of a certain age, please. When you get to this age – not quite menopausal, but no spring chicken – you’ve got a lot of things to laugh about. We don’t see women of that age featured in comedies; they always tend to be the minor characters.’ She also said, ‘there are loads of funny women out there.”
Women of an Uncertain Age is funny and brings a light hearted view of life over 50. During their one-hour comedy sketch show, they’ll share tips on dealing with nuisance phone calls, how to make coffee ice cream and how to hip hop after the hip op.
You can catch Women of an Uncertain Age during Theatrefest, Barnstaple. Tickets are £5 – £3. The box office number is 01271 324242 and you can also book through the North Devon Theatres website. For times and more on the show pop over to the Theatrefest site.
