MP takes up issue of recent visit to Bideford Fisheries with Marine Management Organisation
Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, has written to the chief executive of the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) seeking clarity as to why Bideford Fisheries were visited by MMO inspectors just weeks after a ray fishing ban has caused operations to cease at the fishery.
The MP has also put down parliamentary questions for the Minister asking for his assurances as to the reasoning behind the visit.
Geoffrey said: “I am extremely concerned by the visit that took place last week at Bideford Fisheries, especially as it took place at a time of such astonishing insensitivity, just weeks after it has been forced to close due to the ray fishing ban.
“I have therefore raised it as an urgent matter with both the MMO and the Minister, and am seeking their clarification as to exactly why this visit took place.”
