Westward Ho! revealed as one of the UK’s top holiday spots for property investors
With affordable property prices and a region that is proving increasingly popular with tourists, Westward Ho! in Devon is fast establishing itself as the destination of choice for holiday home owners.
Leading property letting specialist holidaycottages.co.uk manages over 1,800 properties on behalf of owners across the UK. With average prices for detached, three-bedroom properties at just under £300,000 in Westward Ho!, those able to invest in a second home can expect to see a strong return on their investment.
During peak season, the average four star property can command a rental of £840 per week for four people, dropping slightly to £370 during low season, proving that the holiday rental market and demand are both strong.
Since 2010 the area has undergone a period of significant investment, including funding from Torridge District Council for the regeneration of the Promenade and the beach receiving the coveted Keep Britain Tidy Blue Flag distinction award for the 11th year in a row in May last year.
Tourist website stayindevon.co.uk also reports that visitor numbers to the region average between three and four million a year with increases expected over the next few years.
Throughout 2015 the area will play host to a number of events that are now a firm favourite on the tourism calendar. The Appledore and Instow Regatta will celebrate its 130th anniversary this summer and the Bideford Rotary Water Festival taking place in July both draw huge numbers of boating and sailing enthusiasts to the area each year and are just a short drive from Westward Ho!
Many guests return year after year and have made the scenic spot their annual holiday location. Guests including the Hollands from Kent who have visited stayed in the same property in Westward Ho! for the last six years.
They say: “We like being able to please ourselves when on holiday and not be restricted dining times and housekeeping like when you stay in a hotel. You have the freedom to come and go as you please and not worry about what time you need to be back. We’ve stayed in a few cottages across Devon over the years but the location of Westward Ho! is hard to beat.”
James Morris, managing director of holidaycottages.co.uk said: “As a Devon-based business we are always looking to invest in growth and development opportunities in the local area. Westward Ho! is an ever-popular destination for holidaymakers and this ongoing demand offers a great opportunity for the holiday rental market and those considering investing in a second home.
“We have seen an increase of 85 per cent in the number of enquiries from holidaymakers keen to holiday in the area over the last 12 months.
“Meeting this demand will not only continue to attract holidaymakers to the local area but will support growth of the tourism industry and we hope support further investment in the area.
“We look forward to a busy season for Westward Ho! in 2015 and beyond.”
