RGB Building Supplies hail successful apprenticeships
Apprenticeships have recently undergone a resurgence and with National Apprenticeship Week taking place between Monday, March 9 and Friday, March 13, RGB Building Supplies has announced that, due to the success of the current apprentices, they are something that will receive further investment.
Ryan Leach, aged 19, is currently working at RGB’s Holsworthy branch and is one and a half years into his two and a half year apprenticeship. Ryan has also spent time at the Hatherleigh, Crediton and Okehampton branches, taking on a number of different tasks.
Ryan said: “At Holsworthy I’m currently working in the yard, which is really helping me learn the vast amount of products that RGB stock, but I have also had experience of working in customer service and have achieved my fork lift licence.
“I’m really keen to work in the shop a bit more and use the knowledge I’ve gained to have more interaction with the customers, as this is an aspect I enjoy.”
Experiencing the different parts of RGB is what Ryan enjoys most, and is one of the reasons he would recommend an apprenticeship to other people.
He said: “At the end of my apprenticeship I will have experienced many of the different roles in the business. Taking on the different tasks is one of the aspects that I really enjoy, as it helps me to learn where I work best.
“With the apprenticeship at RGB you do get moved around quite a bit to experience other branches and, as well as broadening my knowledge of the products and the industry, it has really helped to develop my confidence as I’ve had to meet a lot of different people. I would certainly recommend looking into apprenticeships when deciding on career options.”
Jenny Naylor, HR manager at RGB Building Supplies and Ryan’s direct line manager, said: “Apprenticeships are a relatively new venture for RGB, but the success that we have had with Ryan and previous apprentices, who have gone on to full employment with us, means that we are keen to offer further opportunities.
“The builder’s merchant industry is one that few people consider when making their career choices, yet there are many different roles and positions available. Apprenticeships do work extremely well for us as the apprentices experience all different aspects of the business, which helps us to see where their strengths lie, whilst gaining a qualification at the same time.”
Apprenticeship opportunities at RGB Building Supplies will be announced in the coming months.
