Tiverton election hustings – find out about your candidates
AS the contest heats up for what is likely to be the closest general election for years, voters in the Tiverton area have the chance to put the five candidates who are seeking to become the next MP for the Tiverton & Honiton constituency under the spotlight.
Jointly sponsored by Churches Together in Tiverton and Tiverton Senior Voice – the local branch of Devon Senior Voice, the forum for older people – the hustings in Tiverton will allow members of the public to put questions to the panel of candidates, and to get answers from each of them.
Event co-organiser Jose Kimber said: ‘Come and hear from our constituency candidates whom we have invited together to give electors, young and old, the chance to hear how the parties would deal with the important issues that matter to people.
‘We would encourage as many people as possible to attend.’
The candidates are: Paul Edwards (Green Party); Stephen Kearney (Liberal Democrat); Caroline Kolek (Labour); Neil Parish (Conservative); and Graham Smith (UKIP). The event will be chaired by Andrew Lovett, head of Tiverton High School.
The hustings will take place on Friday 24 April 2015 at Tiverton High School’s Community Arts Theatre, Bolham Road, Tiverton EX16 6SQ, with doors open from 7pm. Free parking is available on the site.
Anyone wanting to ask a question should submit it with their name and home address by e-mail to: email@example.com by 22 April 2015, or submit it in writing, marked ‘Tiverton Hustings’, and leave it at the New Creation Shop, Bampton Street, Tiverton, by 21 April 2015.
Mrs Kimber added: ‘A number of the best questions on a range of issues, both locally and nationally, will be selected from those submitted and the questioners will be invited to present them in person, so please do not submit a question if you do not intend to be present at the meeting.’
