Labour candidate hits back at ‘duplicitous and underhand’ campaigning tactics of Lib Dem former MP
Labour’s candidate for the Newton Abbot seat today responded angrily to a leaflet issued by Liberal Democrat Richard Younger-Ross.
The flier, headlined ‘News for Labour Voters – Helping Labour Win’, appeared to be an official Labour Party leaflet which encouraged voters to support the Younger-Ross and was described by Labour candidate Roy Freer as a “Duplicitous and underhand tactic from a desperate candidate”.
Roy told the Devon Week: “I have been contacted by dozens of voters asking me why the Labour Party was writing to them with a letter of support for Mr Younger-Ross.
“The headline used in the mailout is clearly designed to confuse and is a shocking example of how desperate the Lib Dems are for votes.
“The Labour Party has been campaigning hard throughout the constituency and we are taking votes from all parties and re-establishing ourselves in the area.
“I regard this duplicitous and underhand approach as a sure sign that Labour is making progress but am angry that someone who wants to be our representative in Westminster should stoop to such a low level.”
