The AA Box 456, the yellow emergency box on the A3052, and the last of its kind remaining in Devon has a Grade II-listed building status.
But the AA has asked for council help to maintain the box and have asked Colaton Raleigh Parish Council to help out.
And for their part, the council are looking to put it in a museum – they can’t afford to maintain it.
An East Devon council spokesman told the Express and Echo: “We will be writing to parish councils shortly inviting them to consider taking it over.”
In the event of no takers coming forward the AA has given assurances that it will continue to safeguard the box.
