The waiting lists for social housing in Devon has jumped up by 28 per cent in some cases.
In all around 300,000 are in need of homes.
West Devon Borough Council saw the rise of 28 per cent since March last year, with 1,934 people on the waiting list for social housing.
Other figures include a 25 per cent rise in the South Hams, a 20 per cent increase in the last two months in North Devon. With 6.374 waiting in Plymouth and 6,342 in Torbay.
