Torbay leads the South West’s chart for teenage pregnancies, placing it 25th in the country.
The rate of 57.4 per 1,000 is for figures to 2007 and marks a rise from 51.1 per 1,000 in 2006.
Recently Torbay added £68,000 to its budget for tackling teenage pregnancy, which includes initiatives such as a walk-in health ‘shop’ in Torquay town centre; a condom card scheme; dedicated clinic drop-in sessions in Castle Circus Health Centre, Torquay, and Midvale Clinic, Paignton; a boys’ and young men’s worker to provide a dedicated, trusted source of information and advice.
