Next month’s plans to turn off street lights in Exeter in an attempt to save money, and cut carbon emissions, has been criticised by councillors in the city.
There are fears that the dimmed and extinguished lights would give rise to vandalism, anti-social behaviour, car crime, and burglaries.
A Devon County Council spokesman said: “In areas where there are regular high levels of late-night activity, part-night lighting will not be used.”
