More than £20,000 a year could be lost in production and down time at Exeter’s recycling centre because of the number of needles and syringes found in the waste.
Despite pleas and publicity to hypodermic users, more than 1,146 needles have been found in the past eight months.
Mike Trim, head of the city’s cleansing services, told the Express and Echo: “Over the last 12 months, I would estimate that it has cost more than £20,000 in lost production and down time.”
