Devon county council is increasing its funding for domestic violence services by around £400,000 to £900,000 amide fears that the economic stress will increase incidents.
There is also an extra £30,000 for North Devon Women’s Aid.
Tina Feather, manager of North Devon Women’s Aid, told the BBC the funding had come at the right time.
There has been a 10 per cent increase in reported incidents in the four months to January 2009 compared with the same period last year.
