The number of vehicle kilometres in Devon rose by 31 per cent between 1993 and 2007, meanwhile the Campaign to Protect Rural England is calling for a stop to transport plans, including the long-awaited (50-plus years) Kingskerswell bypass bewtween Newton Abbot and Torbay.
CPRE senior transport campaigner Ralph Smyth said: “We need urgent investment in rail, bus, walking and cycle routes to give people in all areas real choices for low-carbon travel.”
