Radical cost cutting could see more than 500 jobs going at Devon County Council, if agreed at the next cabinet meeting at County Hall on Tuesday, November 3.
The aim to reduce costs by at least £20 million over two years would see a freeze on recruitment, except for ‘critical workers’ like teachers and social workers.
Other cost-cutting measure would include offering reduced hours, unpaid holiday or home working to avoid compulsory redundancies. There are also possible changes to sick pay entitlement.
