A planning application to put gates in an alleyway in Bideport have been passed, despite 12 residents object that the pathway has been used fro more than 20 years.
But the application is to reinstall gates and the footpath is marked ‘private road’.
Alison Smith, from Devon County Council confirmed the route was not recorded as a public right of way, according to South West Buisness.
The move was to combat vandalism and anti-social behaviour and fear of crime for residents, and consultation with property holders, police and residents highlighted the belief that gates would be beneficial.
