The Teignmouth to Shaldon ferry service is moored at the moment as Teignbridge Council seeks bidders for the contract.
Teignbridge District Council is offering a 15-year tender after former skipper James Trout ended his decade of running the operation.
The ferry is currently moored in the Teign estuary and may not be running again until Easter.
