Devon residents are being urged to beware of bogus telephone callers, posing as council officers, operating in the area.
Residents in Mid Devon, East Devon, North Devon and Torridge have been targeted as part of this scam. In each case, the caller claimed to be from the council, saying that the individual may be eligible for a reimbursement of council tax and asking for bank details, explaining that they would be sent a form to complete, to process the claim.
Mid Devon residents are urged to report any suspect calls to the Customer First on 01884 255255 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
