Teignbridge Council is looking form someone to take on the Shaldon to Teignmouth ferry for a 15-year contract.
The council is currently inviting expressions of interest from potential operators, with a closing date of Thursday, December 10. The formal tender process will follow.
It is hoped that the ferry, will be back in use by Easter next year, if not before.
