The Mitre Bookshop in Newton Abbot will not reopen after the death of owner Stella Watson.
Stella’s son, Simon, explained the difficulties of keeping the shop open while applauding the work of the bookshop’s staff.
He said: ‘The staff have been brilliant in looking after the customers, above and far beyond what anyone could ask of them. Sadly, we are not in a position to reopen the shop – apart from a closing down sale. Stella was the life of the business and I can’t be Stella. I hope everyone will understand that.”
The shop was in a building that was originally part of the town’s post office.
