During a debate about the plans for Exeter unitary plans in the Commons, Barbara Follett, a junior Local Government Minister who has responsibility for local government, said: “The proposals have a Marmite-like quality: people either love them or hate them.”
The Tory motion describing the changes as “an abuse of the democratic process” was defeated.
