The first meeting of ‘the Implementation Executive’, the group charged with setting up a new unitary council for Exeter for 2011 took place last night ( Tuesday, April 6).
This new body will make all the key decisions about setting up the new unitary authority until full elections are held on Thursday, May 5, 2011. It is made up of 15 councillors, 11 from the city council and four from the county council representing Exeter divisions. The way that the Implementation Executive will work has been set down the in the legislation that creates the new unitary council for Exeter.
The Implementation Executive meetings will be held monthly and are open to the public and media.
A range of external organisations which support local councils including the Government Office South west (GOSW), the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and the South West Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership are expected to support the process.
