Torbay’s Liberal Democrat candidate Adrian Sanders has hailed the massive response to his petition to save community pubs in the area.
Dozens of pubs have closed in South Devon in recent years as the recession and tax hikes have made their businesses untenable. Nearly a thousand customers across the Bay have signed Adrian’s petition and more are still to come.
Adrian will use the petition to support the Liberal Democrat national campaign to save under threat pubs. The campaign aims to force the next Government to abandon the beer duty escalator, to tackle the impact of cut-price alcohol being sold by supermarkets, to make it easier for pubs to host live music and other events and to address the problems of the tied pub system which has distorted local markets in recent years.
