The trouble-hit public art that is the Heavitree Arch is under fire again. Not only has new figures revealed the arch cost slightly more than originally thought.
Oringally, the manufactures of the rusting metal panels to the sculpture said cleaning and lubricating would cure the problem, but now the council is in discussions that may result in the panels being replaced.
The figure of £181,630 for the overall cost of the arch, associated artwork, including repairs due to vandalism has been revised upward to £181,894
The total repair bill for the arch was £8,837, with an excess on the insurance of £1,000.
The Heavitree Sculpture Focus Group said the community was not properly consulted about whether the arch was wanted.
