There is question mark over the future of the Kingskerwell bypass with the Department of Transport facing cuts of £309 million.
Anne Marrie Morris, new Conservative MP for Newton Abbot said: “We have a huge deficit and it is right and proper that we seek to do something about it. That is going to be very painful but we need to do it in a sensitive way.
“The bypass, clearly it puts that at risk but I am lobbying alongside Adrian Sanders. We will do our level best to see the bypass built. But this puts a question mark over it.”
Conservative MP for Totnes Dr Sarah Wollaston said: “We have to make sure that we push strongly for the need for the Kingskerswell bypass. It is key to the regeneration of the area.
“We are going to have to see big cuts happen across a number of departments. We can’t continue to spend money that we don’t have.”
