Plymouth’s Air Southwest airline to be sold as owner Sutton Harbour Holdings are to focus on core property and marine activities. The airline, which employes 150 started up in 2003 to fill the gap when British Airways withdrew its services to the South West. The first route was Plymouth–Newquay–Gatwick, with routes to Plymouth-Bristol-Manchester, Dublin, Leeds, Cardiff, Norwich, Gronoble, Cork, Glasgow, Newcastle Guernsey and London City Airport, following.
A book of speeches by Winston Churchill, signed by him to Devon-born spy Guy Burgess is expected to fetch £18,000 at an auction in Christies, London, on Wednesday, June 2. Guy Burgess was born in Devonport and educated in Dartmouth. The book, Arms and The Covenant, speeches by Churchill, is signed ‘To Guy Burgess, from Winston S Churchill, To confirm his admirable sentiments, October 1938.’
Exmouth is hoping to be included in a guide to the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Beach Guide, which is published on Friday, May 28. The town’s beaches were left out last year despite Sidmouth and Shaldon getting in.
