Dartmouth Town Council is opposing the imposition of parking metres in the town, in the face of a bid for their introduction from Devon County Council, which wants to save up to £750,000 a year on traffic wardens.
Councillors fear the move to pay-and-display would affect the town’s economy. Devon County Council is looking to introduce pay-and-display on-street parking in all 28 of Devon’s coastal and market towns, and they have already been introduced in Totnes as well as Sidmouth, Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Bideford, Barnstaple, Woolacombe and parts of Exeter.
