Young people in Heathfield, near Bovey Tracey, will have new Beaver and Cub groups kicking off on Thursday, July 1.
Teignbridge District Council, the Scouts, Teign Housing, the Police and St Catherine’s Primary School have come together to provide new weekly sessions for local children. They are for Beavers (for the ages 5 years 9 months to 8, which takes place between 6pm and 7pm, and Cubs, for ages 8 years to 10 years 6 months at 7.15pm to 8.30pm.
The sessions will be held every Thursday at St Catherine’s Primary School, led by qualified, CRB-checked cub and beaver leaders. The 1st Heathfield Scouting Group, as it will be called, will feature scarves in purple and yellow – the official colours of Teign Housing, which contributed £2,000 to setting up the group.
Parents are now being encouraged to enrol their children in the groups, and people aged over 18 and willing to get involved in running the groups are also welcome to come forward. Anybody wishing to register their interest or sign their children up can contact PCSO Tina Jordan on 0845 6565093. Boys and girls are welcome to join.
The groups will initially be only for Beaver and Cub age ranges, but it is hoped that this may be expanded to include an older Scouts group.
