Over £20,000 of taxpayers money is to be spent by Devon County Council on buying a colelction of historic documents for the county records office, according to Lib Dem county councillor for Exminster and Kenton Alan Connet – he’s also the leader of Teignbridge Council.
Conservative councillors, who run the authority, pledged up to half the cost of the documents (valued at around £44,000), using money from the sale of Exeter Airport.
On his blog, Alan challenged the plan. He says: ”The Conservatives have cut back rural bus services, the youth service is struggling for funds and big sdavings are needed. Is now the time to spend money of these documents when there are so many other demands?”
