My business is www.harrietjonesclothing.co.uk and I am a 16-year-old designer from Plymouth, Devon.
I have always drawn outfits and jewellery since I was little, I used to draw dancing dresses every night after watching a TV show about dancers! And my mum taught me the basics of sewing so I used to make little things.
I started teaching myself properly how to make clothes in early 2007-08, when I was probably appropriately grounded for something stupid I had done, meaning I was stuck in long enough to give it a shot, armed with my mum’s sewing machine and cut up clothes!
I’m mainly inspired by general people, movements, places and music! New York City, just because I have never been somewhere so beautiful and diverse in terms of peoples dress, lifestyle and artistic choices!
Most of the time though I look toward 60s influences and sometimes early 70, just because of the style and music and art and the whole peace movement is so interesting and beautiful to look at!
Recently I went to Glastonbury (2010) for the first time and Stone Circle is the most amazing and diverse place in the world and just unbelievable until you’ve witnessed it – the personalities and styles that group there are beautiful!
I hope to start supplying items of jewellery to small and large retail outlets and stores as well as just gain publicity, perhaps via a PR company for my brand as I am relatively small.
