Puppeteer John Roberts is proud of his creations. John, who lives in Totnes, is the man behind the meerkat in the Comparethemarket’s comparethemeerkat advertising campaign.
John also made a Brains from Thunderbirds, which danced for the Britivic’s Drench adverts.
He said: “It took five days with six of us working in a studio to film the puppet dancing. I made the puppet and then I collected a group of six puppeteers who are all freelance and went to London to film it.”
John originally trained as an architect, but his love for puppets won out when he came across a puppet theatre in Islington and ended up staying there for 10 years rising to director.
His company PuppetCraft has 1,500 puppets and a fantastic reputation. He said: “PuppetCraft has got a reputation all over the country for providing magical family shows.
“When I am making a new show there is often up to 12 people involved, writing scripts, composing music, making the stage and the puppets.”
