Devon athlete Jo Pavey using Exe Valley Leisure Centre’s facilities as part of her rigorous training schedule.
Runner Jo Pavey has recently returned to action after a toe injury forced her to miss the European Championships in Barcelona in August. Mid-Devon Leisure is supporting her by making Exe Valley Leisure Centre’s swimming and gym facilities available to her.
The 37-year-old athlete clocks up 120 miles each week in her intensive training schedule, including on the gym treadmill and ‘running’ in the swimming pool – a low-impact way of training. She is also pounding the tow path along the Great Western Canal.
Jo said: “The facilities at Exe Valley are absolutely fantastic. I really appreciate the help I have been given by Mid Devon Leisure and can’t thank them and the Council enough. This will really help with my training programme.”
Centre manager Mick Lowe told the Devon Week: “We are delighted to be able to help one of Devon’s finest athletes get back on track for potential Olympic success! Jo is an inspiration to many, whether they want to take part in sport at a competitive level or just want to get fit. Here at Exe Valley we have something for everyone, so pop in and see us or log on to www.midevonleisure.co.uk for information about activities, facilities, clubs and opening hours.”
