North Devon MP Nick Harvey has called for Government investment in Ilfracombe, Chulmleigh and Pilton colleges, following the announcement in the Comprehensive Spending Review that £15.8billion is to be spent on 600 schools that lost out on the cancelled Building Schools for the Future programme.
Nick said: “I welcome the Government’s announcement that despite heavy cuts to the rest of the education budget, the capital funding is now in place to deliver the refurbishment of the schools and colleges that lost out on BSF. The colleges at Ilfracombe and Chulmleigh in particular are in a dilapidated state and I will do all I can to ensure they receive this investment as a priority.
“After the BSF programme was cancelled, Education Secretary Michael Gove explained to me that it was ‘not the end of the story’ and that buildings with the most urgent physical needs would be reconsidered when circumstances allowed. As such, I have written to Secretary Gove today and I will be meeting and working with officials from these three schools to maintain the pressure and secure this integral investment in our children’s futures.”
