Joanne Lock and Meghan Fleet from Devon, have won the Ultimate Friends category at The Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards in association with Avon. Meghan collected their award at the star-studded bash, which was held at Banqueting House in central London, on Tuesday, November 2.
When Joanne was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma she was devastated and thought that no one could understand what she was going through. But her best friend Meghan was determined Joanne wouldn’t feel alone throughout her cancer.
Shortly after starting chemotherapy Joanne’s beautiful dark brown hair began to fall out, then one day she went to visit her best friend and Meghan opened the door to reveal her totally shaved head. “I couldn’t watch Joanne go through losing her hair alone,” Meghan said.
The whole time that Joanne had no hair Meghan continued to shave her own head again and again. Throughout it all, she was a rock for Joanne and they celebrated Joanne going into remission in March. “Meghan’s the greatest friend a girl could wish for,” said Joanne.
Cosmopolitan’s Editor Louise Court told the Devon Week: “Joanne and Meghan’s bond and the show of loyalty which was displayed is an inspiration to us all. It’s a delight to be able to honour people like Joanne and Meghan and recognise them in this public way. This year’s awards have once again opened our eyes to many extraordinary and inspirational women.”
