Teignbridge families are being given the opportunity to beat the economic blues with free activity taster sessions at council-run leisure centres during February half term.
Bookings have just opened for 11 new activities which will be available for children to try for free as part of Teignbridge Council’s Holiday Activities Programme from February 21-25. They include Scuba Diving, Archery, Musical Theatre and Street Dance, Laser Clay Shooting, Ultimate Frisbee and more, with details available in leisure centres and online.
Activities will be available across all four of the council’s leisure centres in Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Dawlish and Ashburton.
Working in partnership with six Learning Communities from across the district, the sessions are being funded by the Don’t Stop Me Now scheme, a Government initiative aimed at helping more children to access out-of-school activities.
Children eligible for the scheme can register for the sessions now, while those who aren’t eligible can still take part for free by registering for any remaining places from Monday, January 17. Booking is essential and activities are limited to one per child.
Full details and eligibility can be checked on the Teignbridge Holiday Activites pages
Throughout the week Newton Abbot Leisure Centre and Dawlish Leisure Centre will host Holiday Clubs; fully supervised days with activities including sports challenges, bouncy castles, arts and crafts and swimming. Other workshops such as trampolining and pool-inflatable sessions are also available.
At Ashmoor Recreation Centre and Broadmeadow Leisure Centre, children can take part in Sports Shots which are fun, sports themed sessions which will help them develop new sporting skills.
The full holiday activity programme is available online or directly from sports centres or council offices.
