Devon County Council’s Cabinet agreed for a detailed planning application to be submitted for a railway station at Cranbrook after councillors approved the layout plan.
Planning consent has been granted for the first phase of the new community in East Devon and plans for the station form an integral part of the development.
The estimated £4.5 million plans for the station have been developed over the past two years by Devon County Council. The Council has been leading on the scheme, working with Network Rail and South West Trains. South West Trains anticipates that all services on the line will call at Cranbrook.
The report before the Cabinet stated that sustainable transport is fundamental to the Exeter and East Devon growth point and the station will serve all of the developments such as Skypark and Exeter Science Park, as well as Cranbrook. The earliest that construction on the station could start is Spring 2012.
