A new zebra crossing has been completed in Barnstaple to benefit school pupils in the town. The need for the Devon County Council scheme in Fair View, Barnstaple, was identified in the School Travel Plan of the four neighbouring Pilton schools to improve safety in the area.
The £35,000 scheme is being introduced following full consultation and agreement with local schools, parents and Community Police Officers.
Among those to benefit are Pathfield School and Pilton Infants’ School. Pathfield School headteacher Claire May said: “The new crossing will provide our students with valuable training in life skills and support their independence training. As a school we value the chance to use our local community for teaching and learning opportunities and so regular visits are made to Barnstaple town centre.
“Students also walk to old Barnstaple Town Station on a regular basis to visit Pathfield sixth form. This crossing will make it much safer for the staff and students to cross what is a busy stretch in the road.”
