Plymouth City Centre Company is planning a right Royal knees up to celebrate the marriage of Price William to Kate Middleton on Friday, April 29, and everyone is invited!
Inspired by patriotic parties of yesteryear, the Piazza will be transformed into Plymouth’s largest street party, with footage from the ceremony at Westminster Abbey broadcast live on the big screen.
The Piazza will be a riot of red, white and blue, decorated with bunting and flags. There will also be plenty of picnic benches draped in gingham tablecloths from which to enjoy a host of traditional treats including cucumber sandwiches, Devon Cream Teas and even a glass of Pimm’s.
Clint Jones, Plymouth city centre manager said: “Many people in the city have never experienced a great British street party, the kind held following WWII, for the Queen’s Coronation and Silver Jubilee and the wedding of Charles and Di.
“We want to bring the spirit of the street party back and where better than the Piazza, where you can bring a picnic, join the celebrations and watch the ceremony live on a 30 square-metre screen?”
There will be entertainment for the children with face painting, hat making, cake decorating and a variety of street entertainment all from 10am-4pm.
Coverage of the Royal Wedding on the Big Screen will start from 8am building up throughout the morning to the ceremony itself at 11am. Further details will be announced as they are confirmed.
