For one week, from Monday, June 20, Crediton town centre will be designation a a Clean Zone.
As a Clean Zone the district council has pledged to clean the streets and litter pick the area; to quickly investigate and clear any fly-tipping reported; and to have Waste Awareness Officers, Enforcement Officers and staff to offer advice and information on the Clean Zone and make sure the appropriate action is taken.
Waste Services manager Gary Pilling said “We are hoping that local residents will notice a real difference as a result of the week’s Clean Zone activities.
“Once an area is clean it makes people think twice before they drop litter there again, so the area stays litter-free for longer.
“The Clean Zone pledge is also a warning to persistent litter-droppers, and those that do not clean up after their dog, that we are not prepared to allow this”.
Mid Devon District Council will set up a further three Clean Zones during the year, the next being planned for Bampton in July.
